Our Lord Sends Us
At the end of Christ’s life on earth, we find Him giving these words to His disciples:
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. - Matthew 28:18-20
This commission from Christ forms the framework for the mission of the Church of Christ, and for Reformation OPC as well. It is a mission dedicated the Glory of the Messiah, guided and empowered by the same source, Spirit and Truth, Water and Word. It is a mission accomplished by the “means of grace” given to us by the King and Head of the Church, Jesus Christ. Those things being not only listed in the Matthew 28:18-20, but also prescribed for us by those charged with the task of building the Church, the Apostles in the book of Acts and in the epistles of the New Testament. The mission of the church, that is the mission of expanding the glory of God over all the earth, through the gathering of worshippers, is done, ordinarily and prescriptively through the exercise of worship and in the availing ourselves of the means of grace within worship.
